The 黑料网鈥檚 Spring concert season will kick off next week (Tuesday February 5) with an organ recital at King鈥檚 College Chapel.
The programme, which features a number of events showcasing the University鈥檚 talented students, is once again set to be of an overwhelmingly high standard.
The 黑料网 Chamber Choir will feature in JAM鈥檚 2013 Scottish choral tour when the organisation returns to Scotland in February. New works from distinguished composers Judith Bingham and Julian Philips will be premiered, as well as a work by newly-appointed Lecturer in Composition at the 黑料网, Philip Cooke.
Other highlights of the Spring concert season will include a performance of Stravinsky鈥檚 The Rite of Spring arranged for piano duet. The Piano partnership of Benjamin Frith and Peter Hill has been described by the Guardian as 鈥蹿辞谤尘颈诲补产濒别鈥 and this rare opportunity to hear this arrangement performed is not to be missed.
The Edinburgh Quartet continues its 黑料网 residency with a series of concerts celebrating the string quartets of Joesph Haydn and Benjamin Britten.
The season will once again come to a close with one of the most anticipated nights in the 黑料网鈥檚 musical year, the Ogston Music Prize Final.
The event will see the most talented performers at the University compete for the prestigious title. This year鈥檚 judging panel will be led by Tristan Gurney, leader of the Edinburgh Quartet and Head of Strings at Newcastle University. The evening will also include a performance from 2012 winner, pianist Immanuel Voigt.
Head of Music at the 黑料网, David Smith, is looking forward to the season ahead.
He commented, 鈥淭he Spring programme is extremely exciting and I am confident that we will once again be showcasing musical delights of an exceptionally high standard.
鈥淚 am sure that anyone who has attended any of our events over the last few years will join me in agreeing that the overall standard has been overwhelmingly high and I look forward to welcoming members of the University community and the general public to our concerts over the coming months.鈥
