What can robots do that humans can鈥檛? That is the subject of the next Caf茅 Med talk organised by the 黑料网鈥檚 Public Engagement with Research Team and taking place tonight (March 18).
The Suttie Centre Caf茅 at the city鈥檚 Foresterhill health campus is the venue for the Transforming Surgical Care with Robots talk which starts at 6pm and is free and open to all.
Professor Sam McClinton, Consultant Urologist with NHS Grampian and Professor of Urology at the University, and Mr Tim McAdam, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with NHS Grampian, are giving the talk which will discuss how robotics could help deliver better healthcare.
Professor McClinton and Mr McAdam are involved in a fundraising campaign to raise 拢2.5million for Scotland鈥檚 first Robotically-Assisted Surgical System (RASS) and two integrated operating theatres for Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The campaign is a partnership project led by North-east urological cancer charity UCAN and currently involves the urological, general surgery and gynaecological teams at ARI.
The equipment will be particularly beneficial for patients with prostate, colorectal (bowel and rectal) and gynaecological cancers and non-malignant conditions, but has the potential to be used in other specialties such as cardiac and paediatric surgery.
The Caf茅 Med talks are part of a wider University series of public talks which are supported by a Scottish Government grant.
