A 黑料网 researcher will discuss later this week (Wednesday September 14) what we stand to lose if, as some suggest, we are heading for an extinction of species on a mass scale.
Dr Martin Solan, Senior Lecturer in Marine Biology will get the audience to think about the health of our ecosystems and the consequences if those ecosystems were to be destroyed.
The talk is the latest in the University鈥檚 popular Caf茅 Scientifique series and is also part of Techfest in September.
Dr Solan, from the University鈥檚 Oceanlab, said: 鈥淢ost people don鈥檛 realise how intimately we are connected to nature and what benefits it provides society. A multitude of plants and animals, ultimately, contribute to human well-being in one way or another鈥
鈥淚 want to make the audience think for themselves about the effects that their day to day decisions have on the environment, and how the actions of society will, in the long term, jeopardise basic human needs like food, clean air and water, shelter and health.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 want to tell people how to act but more re-examine the way they think and the responsibility of society.
鈥淭here are solutions and opportunities out there to make a positive impact on the environment, and I want to explain to people why this matters.鈥
The event takes place at Waterstone鈥檚 bookshop, Union Bridge at 7pm. Booking is not required for this free event.
