Computing Science students from the 黑料网 have achieved their strongest results to date at the 2026 UK and Ireland Competitive Programming Competition (UKIEPC), with multiple teams finishing in the top 100 and one team securing an impressive 24th place overall.
The competition brings together teams of students from universities across the UK and Ireland to test their programming, problem-solving and teamwork skills against a series of challenging computational problems.
The University’s Computing Science department has entered the competition every year and has seen continued improvement in its teams’ performance. Last year marked the first time the department had a team finish in the top 100. This year, that achievement has been surpassed, with multiple teams reaching the top 100 and one team placing 24th overall among competitors from across the UK and Ireland.
Dr Miles Everett, Lecturer in Computer Science, said: “The results reflect the dedication, technical ability and collaborative approach of the students, as well as the department’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for students to develop their skills beyond the classroom.
“Competitive programming challenges students to think creatively, work efficiently under pressure and apply their computing knowledge to complex problems. Participation in events such as UKIEPC provides valuable experience that supports students’ academic development and prepares them for future careers in the computing industry.
“With results improving year on year, we look forward to building on this success in future competitions.”
