having access to NHS Highland systems as a non-remote and rural student
out of hours was a really good specialty, the staff were very welcoming and it was really good teaching. There was a timetable which I really liked, however neonates didn't have a timetable and I found that very challenging.
The clinicians leading and involved in this block were particularly engaging and I felt that their passion for their specialties came across well.

I got to see and examine a lot of patients in out of hours I did lots of newborn exams in neonates
I mainly saw patients pre-surgery in the anaesthetic room and throughout their procedure. This was a new setting but useful for my learning. I felt it was valuable to be able to speak with patients before surgery and understand their worries and expectations.
As this block contains different specialties, please make it clear in your comments which specialty you are referring to. Please note any particularly good educational experiences and state why:

the home visits in out of hours were really useful. I went out to palliative care calls and I feel like we don't get very much palliative teaching so I highly recommend.
I found all of the anaesthetics staff incredibly welcoming and keen to teach. I felt part of the team and very much would recommend this attachment to other students. Similarly, the MedEd staff were excellent and always keen to get me involved - I would also recommend this attachment!
Please suggest any improvements to this educational experience.

I think neonates would be better if there was a bit more of a timetable.

- All the staff in the Raigmore ENT Department were incredibly brilliant. I felt very welcome. I've learned a lot from them in my time there that I will carry forward in my career. A special thank you to all the staff there, from the FY doctors, registrars and consultants! - All the staff in Ophthalmology department at NTC (in particular, Dr Rosemary Brennan, Steve, and Jo the nurse) were incredibly brilliant. I felt very welcome. I've learned a lot from them in my time there that I will carry forward in my career. - I also felt the staff in Raigmore Pathology were great and very helpful and engaging.
I would like to nominate the MedEd Clinical Teaching Fellows, based in UHI House. They were supportive, kind, and made me feel part of the MedEd team. I really enjoyed my two week placement, and that was down to their enthusiasm, knowledge, and general great vibes. I am excited to work with them in the future!
