I participated during evenings and weekends due to my timetable. As the ward and UTAC is covered by the same doctors in evenings and weekends I got exposure for this during out of hours.

What has been the highlight of this block?

I feel I have had a wide range of clinical exposure during this placement. There has been opportunities for clinic, theatres, ward jobs, emergency jobs and clerking. It has been good at allowing a variety and always something going on.

What has been the main challenge during this block?

I think the timetable provided has been very good at giving us a variety of what is involved in urology. I also understand it gives a good insight into shift work when becoming a FY1. I think the main challenge was perhaps being tired on placement which I do understand is something to get used to for the future. I think I personally would have benefitted with a half day a week for self study away from the ward to reflect and learn urology presentations.

Would you like to tell us more about the concern related to discrimination, bullying and harassment?

Carol Ann has been very crucial for us students on the ward. She helped organise timetables, allows us to be flexible with it if needed but also helps with any concerns we may have day to day on the ward. Also has played big role on ward teaching and when it comes to mini-cexs etc. Mr. Lam has also addressed any problems that we may have had which has been very beneficial. Time is also made for us students if required for long cases, joining clinics etc.
