Resident doctor team were excellent in facilitating learning opportunities and in creating a welcoming environment
The team have been a pleasure to work with, they were all very supportive, I was able to ask questions about clinical decision making and be properly instructed regarding procedures both practically and using the NHS Trak system and in general they were lovely to be around, especially the FYs.
Lots of opportunities to see different infectious disease presentations, clerk patients and draft initial management plans based on the clerkings.

Number of medical students - far too many on one ward. At one point there were 6 senior medical students on our ward, which was far beyond too many. Although we did use late shifts etc to try to combat this, this wasn’t enough to facilitate equal spread of learning opportunities / jobs.
The ward round every morning was split up into three with the clinicians taking the front, middle and back of the ward. Thus, it was a bit tough to familiarise myself with every patient and their cases while also maintaining a degree of continuity i.e. seeing a patient from the beginning to the end; but I was able to find ways to overcome this.
Too many students scheduled to be on the ward at one time. Some days 3 5th years, 2 4th years and 1 HCP Medical Course (Edinburgh) 5th year student on the ward. As 5th years we tried to circumnavigate this via rotating into late shifts but there were often still 5 students on the ward despite our best efforts which diluted opportunities to join ward rounds, do jobs and see patients.
Would you like to tell us more about the concern related to discrimination, bullying and harassment?

Dr Luke Nelson - FY1 - helped me to develop my skills in assessing the unwell patient whilst on the ward in a meticulous and methodical fashion. Very supportive Kerrin Wilson - PA - Kerrin made sure we had opportunities to attend teaching weekly. She also took the opportunity to provide informal teaching on the ward on common ID presentation

Infectious Diseases was a great placement on a really welcoming ward. We were really made feel a part of the team. I developed good working relationships with the team and felt I was well supported in developing my clinical skills as well as being provided with the opportunity to try new skills such as phlebotomy under ultrasound guidance under direct supervision. We had opportunities to follow the patient journey from admission to discharge and beyond. I would highly recommend this placement to anyone wanting to develop their skills My thanks to all of the staff on ward 111 for a great placement
