- Glen O Dee Teaching with Dr James Henderson - I attended Glen O Dee Hospital twice with Dr Henderson and had really great teaching both times. He asked me questions about patients and different conditions and gave really good teaching on things I wasn't so sure about. I also got to examine a pleural effusion chest with him and he taught me how to feel the difference in percussion and hear the difference in auscultation. I found this really valuable as I hadn't examined a real pleural effusion before. Also, the second time I was at the Glen O Dee with Dr Henderson I got to take a history from a newly admitted patient and present it to him. Then he gave me really good teaching on the condition, palliative care/medicine and then I got to observe him communicating this difficult topic with the patients' daughter. I felt I learned a lot from that experience and am really grateful for him taking the time to teach me whiles he was busy with his other jobs. - Urgent Care Practitioner Home Visits with Claire Innes - another really valuable educational experience and very eye-opening for me to see as a medical student. It was a very different environment being in patients' homes with their families. I got to assist in examinations and taking bloods and Claire was a really good teacher. - Nurse Clinics - All of the nurses were really lovely and gave me good teaching. Nurse Maria Williams was a really good teacher and let me get involved with the clinics. She taught me how to do INR testing, ABPI testing and supervised me doing an IM injection. I found her clinics a good educational experience and enjoyed spending time with the nurses to see what their role involves. - Medical Emergency with Duty Doctor - there was a medical emergency on my last week in the practice which I got to observe. Dr Cath McLaren allowed me to come in and watch the team of duty doctors work together to rapidly assess the patient and call an ambulance. It was a very good educational experience for me and it was inspiring to see how well the doctors and staff worked together as a team for the patient. I am very grateful that Dr McLaren involved me as it was an educational experience I won't forget!

I genuinely have no improvements for my time at Banchory. I loved it and wish the block was longer.

1. Dr Nikki Showell - Banchory Group Practice - Dr Showell had a lot of student slots with me during my time on my GP block and she was a great teacher. She made me feel at ease when I was initially nervous about leading consultations and she was very supportive. She has a really nice manner with her patients, had so much clinical knowledge and was a really good role model for me. She gave me good supportive feedback and teaching, I felt I could ask her anything, and she made me laugh too! I looked forward to my sessions with Dr Showell and I really enjoyed learning from her. Thank you! 2. Dr Claire Walker - Banchory Group Practice - Dr Walker was my supervisor during my GP block and I felt very inspired by her. Dr Walker would go above and beyond for her patients and had so much time for each of them individually, even if it cut into her own time. The way she handled patients with extensive lists and difficult topics was admirable and she is very skilled at her job. She also has a very positive attitude and was always very friendly and smiling, despite very difficult and long consultations. I felt really inspired by Dr Walker and want to show the same empathy, kindness and compassion to my future patients. Thank you!
