The clinicians carrying out teaching were all very welcoming and kind. They all checked in with how we were getting on anytime we saw them.
Martin Wilson was an excellent supervisor and felt genuinely interested in our learning.
The staff were very friendly and even when they did not expect you to be there, I was always guided to the correct room and welcomed into the ward round or appropriate patient rooms.
Staff in CGH are very nice and friendly

Patients were welcoming and happy to have someone to chat to for the most part.
I think there could have been more. Possibly timetabled infusion suite time or other clinics which have some practical procedures
I had many great opportunities to practice history and examination and felt much more confident at the end of the block within this area. However, with little jobs to do sign-offs were difficult and there was no resources for where to access other areas which would provide more practical procedures still with a along term condition focus.
Lots of patient interaction as promoted by Dr Makin
Sometimes people on the ward weren’t sure what to do with you
As this block contains different specialties, please make it clear in your comments which specialty you are referring to. Please note any particularly good educational experiences and state why:

I found the teaching on 3a particularly useful as it wasn't the typical ward round that you can sometimes get a bit lost in.
I enjoyed the endocrine teaching with Dr Macfarlane, I thought it was very well delivered. The neuro teaching with Dr Taylor was also very helpful.
all the clinics were really good teaching experiences. ward placements were a little less organised, except 3A which had a clear role for students
Dr Mcfarlane's dermatology clinic was a great teaching experience. She got us very involved and explained everything in detail for an area in which we do not get too much direct exposure but is commonly seen. Dr Chima was also fantastic at teaching us on her ward round and dedicated a lot of time to getting me involved and making sure I was learning. She offered advice of how to get the most out of ward rounds and gave me different tasks to complete which was a great experience. I felt I learnt loads every time I was with her.
Team on 2C were lovely v welcoming and provided a lot of learning opportunities
Please suggest any improvements to this educational experience.

I understand that clinician availability may be a barrier to this but I think it would be beneficial to try and have a bit more structure which would allow for better integration into the wards. For example, ward/clinical time Monday-Wednesday and teaching Thursday/Friday. Only being on the wards for a morning here and there and moving about everyday meant that you never really got to know people or got to feel like part of the team. Some days there ended up being 5 medical students in one ward and as we would only be there for a day we got less priority understandably. Possibly doing 2 weeks on 2a, 2 weeks on 2c and then 2 weeks clinics/3a/community and rotating them?
Experience in additional wards
This may not be so relevant when the block is carried out later in the year but as this was our first hospital placement, a proper introduction to the IT system and notes system would be useful. It would also be helpful to possibly have assigned areas for practical procedures or willing contacts who would supervise this as after weeks of asking on the ward and having no jobs, I had two opportunities in the last week with willing staff members. I enjoyed the clinic teaching but was disappointed that my neurology clinic slot was a migraine botox clinic and I had no other exposure to this specialty when we were doing weekly tutorials for it.
Each person gets to do more thing, I feel like everyone else got more opportunities to go to different specialties
Would you like to tell us more about the concern related to discrimination, bullying and harassment?
