From the consultants to the nurses, everyone was very sweet and welcoming
Tutorial week
The clinical staff in the hospital
The doctors on the rehab ortho unit were great and that was a great week. Most of the doctors sitting in clinics with were really helpful, explaining what patients' were coming in with and allowing us to ask questions and supporting our learning.
The introductory week help set the tone for the block.

The interactions with the patients made me feel that this is the right career choice for me
Had a good chance to examine and history take. Less chances for practical procedure sign offs but still managed to get a few.
Lots of just sitting about in clinics watching the consultant, whilst helpful was a bit excessive to have full weeks of nothing but clinics. Would be great if it ran in a more similar way to the Inverness LTC block where they get lots more time in the ward allowing them to achieve sign offs!
Very minimal, some clinics there were three students which was a bit much for one patient in my opinion. Never done any exams (apart from nuero clerk) but got to watch experienced clinicians consult.
There were very limited opportunities to interact with patients on the block. Only during rehab week and week six did I truly get the opportunity to practice history taking, examinations and other practical procedures. Outside of those weeks most of my time was spent shadowing clinicians in clinics. Across the block the opportunities to get involved were quite limited.
Had good conversations and repooort with patients

paediatric and genetic clinics were great! teaching was wonderful and interesting. ILD clinic was also an excellent learning experience.
I love rehabilitation week the most- I got to do a lot of things especially during AMEA and being on my own finding patients to talk to and examine was nice
Neurology ward week. Much better being on the ward instead of clinics all the time. Same with ORU in rehab week.
Rehab ward 304 with FY1 Hannah and IMT1 Susan were fantastic!!
Ortho rehab unit - great doctors and let us ask questions and spoke through everything to make sure we understood.
The Acute frailty clinic was very helpful as well as my time spent on the neurological ward.
Ophthalmology tutorial in week 1 and the ophthalmology clinics were very useful and I learned a lot of things from them. The consultants were very eager to teach and they made me very interested in the specialty so much so that I have decided to rank it as my number 1 choice in the future specialty block to gain more exposure to the specailty.
Neurology was a great week. Lots of teaching during clinics and then great hands on experience when on wards, and the bedside teaching was great. Need more of it.

Please suggest any improvements to this educational experience.

Timetable issues, had some clinics scheduled when the consultant did them over the phone/online so i was sent away since they weren't in the hospital.
Timings of timetable, a lot of reshuffling this block and last placement days given a with a a few days notice
Timetabling issues were experienced so that could be changed
The clinics are a bit repetitive and I didn’t feel like I got major learning opportunities in a lot of them.
Less catch up sessions! They meant I had to leave the little time we get on wards early and didn’t find them particularly useful. Run it like Inverness LTC block- more wards less clinic! More clear instructions of what is expected for the e-portfolio as many of us didn’t realise we needed to update learning goals
Maybe check doctors are happy to teach and explain things to students as some clinicians did not take me on at all and its a bit difficult to understand whats going on when we get no explanation. This happened on a couple of occasions. Some doctors were amazing and very grateful to get to learn but fewer placements with teaching would be better than getting ignored/feeling like being in the way.
More bedside teaching. Timetable uploaded in advance

Dr Dempsey - Respiratory consultant I had a placement with Dr Dempsey in clinic C ARI - Dr Dempsey provided an excellent learning experience, he involved me in his clinic, allowing me to examine patients with him and provided teaching at every opportunity.
1. Dr Dempsey, 2. ILD Clinic, 3. Placement here was great, was taught a lot of useful information and felt included as part of the consultations. I thought he was excellent at explaining topics not just to me, but also the patients which I rarely seen done that well when shadowing other doctors.
1. Dr Zain 2. Opthalmology 3. Teaching was incredible
Danni FY1 in neurology ward 204. Danni helped explain things and gave us all learning opportunities for sign offs.
Zachary Patel Orthopaedics Rehab Unit Very helpful and kind to medical students, made sure we got a lot from the placement and made sure to explain everything to us. Also the way he taught things was great, made me feel much more confident doing exams and cannulas etc. Very grateful for him taking the time to teach and help us.
1. Dr Zain Amir 2. Ophthalmology resident @ NHS Grampian 3. Ophthalmology Tutorial session they taught was extremely useful and their way of teaching using eye anatomy was amazing. They really made me interested in the specialty
