Professor Adrian Grant was the HSRU (now ACE) Director from 1994 to 2006 and an advocate and visionary within evidence-based health services research. During his 13 years’ tenure, the unit trebled in size, carrying out studies in areas such as incontinence, hernia repair, hip replacement and the role of vitamin D in the prevention of fractures. This year’s Adrian Grant Lecture will be delivered by Professor Ed Juszczak. Ed is Professor of Clinical Trials and Statistics in Medicine at Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU), University of Nottingham. With almost 30 years’ experience in clinical trial methodology, he has specialised in trial design, conduct, analysis, interpretation and reporting, particularly in perinatal research and innovative multi-arm trial designs. He has co-authored several influential methodological and reporting guidelines, including CONSORT extensions for multi-arm trials, factorial trials, and trials using cohorts and routinely collected data (CONSORT-ROUTINE), as well as guidance on the content of statistical analysis plans. In early 2020, Ed played a leading role in the Oxford-led RECOVERY COVID-19 trial, helping establish the study and recruit the first patients within nine days of protocol development. He led the statistical team during the trial’s crucial early months and contributed to its governance and dissemination. At Nottingham, he provides methodological leadership for several NIHR-funded multicentre trials across perinatal health, post-operative care, audiology and adolescent mental health, while also supervising research projects and leading training in grant writing.
For those joining in person the lecture will be held in the Rowett Seminar Room 2.046 or there is a Teams link below for those joining virtually.
